The Journey of Surrogacy Testimonial

The Florida Institute for Reproductive Medicine (F.I.R.M.) is one of a minority of infertility practices offering gestational surrogacy. Gestational surrogacy is among the most difficult and expensive treatment available. Gestational surrogacy is reserved for women who are unable to carry a pregnancy themselves, i.e., they no longer have a uterus, have an abnormal uterus or a medical condition that would make carrying a pregnancy dangerous for them and/or baby. In the state of Florida a couple must be legally married to use a gestational surrogate.

Gestational surrogacy requires a legal contract between the intended parents and the surrogate. This contract should be obtained from an attorney with expertise in reproductive medicine,  F.I.R.M. can provide you with recommendations. It is the responsibility of the intended parents to find an appropriate surrogate. Agencies can be suggested, but in most cases a well-known trusted acquaintance is your best option. The physicians at the Florida Institute for Reproductive Medicine will evaluate the suitability of the surrogate. The surrogate must be in good health and have a uterus capable of carrying a pregnancy. The evaluation process involves both psychologic and biologic screening of the intended parents as well as the surrogate. This testing is expensive and time dependent. Our gestational surrogate IVF nurse coordinator will outline a detailed plan to be followed. The entire process can take 6-9 months. Gestational surrogacy is expensive and is rarely covered by insurance. Cost Pricing Information »
